Creuzfeldt-Jakob Disease is a rare pre-senile dementia. It has been traced to the action of a slow-acting transmissible virus. Creuzfeldt-Jakob progresses rapidly. Initially it is characterized by fatigue, apathy, memory loss and disruptive behavior. Eventually, changes in coordination, muscle tremors and emotional liability develop. Prognosis is poor. The individual is completely dependent for care within 6 months and death occurs in 7 months to 2 years.
