Impaired balance and coordination   A person may experience tremors or spasticity (tightness, stiffness, or muscle spasms causing altered postures).
Fatigue  Fatigue affects safety due to possible sudden muscle weakness in the lower extremities, which might result in the person falling.
Muscle weakness and paralysis  A loss of effective muscle function affects the ability to perform the activities of daily living.
Sensory loss  Sensory loss includes visual disorders and numbness in the extremities, thereby affecting the ability to perform tasks safely.
Heat sensitivity  A person with MS is more sensitive to heat due to altered sweating mechanisms. Room temperature should be kept between 72 and 76 degrees Fahrenheit. For swimming the water should be between 89 and 91 degrees Fahrenheit. Adequate hydration is important.
